Connectors Overview#

This guide provides an overview of the Healthcare & Life Sciences MCP Connectors available for Claude, along with instructions on how to get started using them.

Getting Started#

Adding Connectors to Claude#

  1. Open Claude’s Connector Settings

    • In Claude Desktop, select your profile icon in the bottom left

    • Navigate to Settings → Connectors

  2. Browse Available Connectors

    • Find the connector you need in the catalogue

    • Healthcare connectors are grouped together for easy discovery

  3. Enable the Connector

    • Click on the connector you want to use

    • Click “Enable” or “Add Connector”

    • The connector activates immediately—no additional setup required

  4. Start Using the Connector

    • Ask Claude questions that require the connector’s data

    • Claude will automatically use the appropriate tools to answer

Example: Using the NPI Registry Connector#

Once enabled, simply ask Claude questions like:

  • “Find cardiologists in Los Angeles”

  • “Look up NPI 1245319599”

  • “Search for Dr. Smith in Boston”

Claude will use the NPI Registry connector automatically to answer your questions.

Available Connectors#

NPI Registry Connector#

Validate and search US healthcare provider information from the National Provider Identifier Registry.

What Claude can do:

  • Validate NPI numbers instantly

  • Look up provider credentials and specialties

  • Search for providers by name, location, or specialty

  • Find practice addresses and contact information

Best for: Provider verification, network building, credentialing, referral coordination

ICD-10 Codes Connector#

Search and validate medical diagnosis and procedure codes for billing and documentation.

What Claude can do:

  • Look up ICD-10-CM diagnosis codes

  • Search ICD-10-PCS procedure codes

  • Validate codes for HIPAA billing compliance

  • Navigate code hierarchies and classifications

Best for: Medical coding, clinical documentation, billing compliance, coding education

CMS Coverage Connector#

Access Medicare Part B coverage policies and billing guidance.

What Claude can do:

  • Search National and Local Coverage Determinations

  • Find billing and coding articles

  • Check coverage criteria for procedures and services

  • Track recent policy changes

Best for: Coverage research, prior authorization, reimbursement analysis, policy compliance

Clinical Trials Connector#

Search clinical trials from ClinicalTrials.gov to find studies, researchers, and trial data.

What Claude can do:

  • Search trials by condition, intervention, or location

  • Match patients to recruiting trials

  • Find principal investigators and research sites

  • Analyze trial endpoints and designs

Best for: Patient recruitment, competitive intelligence, site selection, research collaboration

ChEMBL Connector#

Access drug discovery data including compound properties, bioactivity, and mechanisms of action.

What Claude can do:

  • Search compounds by name or structure

  • Retrieve bioactivity data (IC50, EC50, Ki values)

  • Find drug targets and mechanisms

  • Access ADMET properties for drug candidates

Best for: Drug discovery, lead optimization, target identification, medicinal chemistry

bioRxiv Connector#

Search preprint research articles from bioRxiv and medRxiv before peer review.

What Claude can do:

  • Search preprints by keyword, author, or topic

  • Track publication outcomes

  • Find research by funding source

  • Access 26 scientific subject categories

Best for: Literature review, competitive intelligence, early research discovery

Important: Preprints have not undergone peer review and should not be reported as established findings.
